I felt lost when I was filled with many negative emotions. I felt like I couldn’t clear my mind I felt unmotivated and ugly. I couldn’t hide it. My body was literally showing how I felt inside. My face was breaking out, I wasn’t sleeping well, and my stomach started to cause me problems because of all the fear, anxiety and frustration I was harboring inside. I reached a point where I felt like I had nothing to offer people and, in a way, I was right. As long as I believed I couldn’t add any value to the world, I didn’t. This way of thinking kept me from making the right steps to moving forward. How exactly do you begin to see value in yourself when all you see in the mirror is failure?
Step 1- Make the decision that you are worth fighting for. You are your own hero. Accept who you are now. The ugly parts, the depressed parts, the anxious parts, and so on. Own it and decide that these things will not be your reality.
Step 2- Decide who you want to be. List some words of the type of person you want to be. In my personal journal I have listed: strong, compassionate, and warm. Create your own list. Write your goals down and let them be the guide to the person you want to be. Whenever you feel low or unmotivated, remember your goal. This step is the beginning to getting you out of the funk you are in. Start to do small actions everyday to get to that person. The journey is totally worthwhile.
Step 3- Small actions everyday. When I say small, I mean simple. Just simple actions that correlate to what you want. So, if you want to be a person who lives in the moment, what you can do is start taking joy in something you don’t enjoy. Maybe you don’t like traffic. You can take the time to make a (hands-free) phone call to a loved one or catch up with a friend. Or you can take the time to listen to some inspiring audios or audiobook. The point is to start switching your mindset from negative to positive thinking. Train your thoughts to operate in a way of thinking that doesn’t let you get in the way of what you want. Don’t underestimate those small actions especially when you don’t see any immediate change.
A quick recap: you are your own hero, envision the person you want to be, and don’t underestimate small actions. This is what I have been doing, everyday for the past 3 months. I’ve started to workout again, I’ve been more motivated, and my face is clearing up. I’m being fueled by the excitement of how my life is going to look like and how proud of myself I will be.
There are those real moments when you feel tired, and are wondering what’s the point?! It was probably easier when you were not trying! Do yourself a favor and give yourself one more week and then another. Keep going like that,if you need to, and in time you will see what you want.
I hope you know I am writing from experience. I am literally looking at my personal journal as I am writing. Tune in to my instagram stories because I will be talking about the pieces I post and you will be able to leave any comments or ask any questions.
Until next time.
P.S. Have patience with yourself.
